Midland County Run

This run started on the wrong foot. I was driving through a neighborhood, trying to find a place to park. It was either in front of somebody’s home or in front of a mailbox. I couldn’t find a good place to get over and off the road. I found a backyard that had an area that allowed me to get off the road. So I parked there. I did a couple of things in my car to prepare for the run, then got out of the vehicle. The owner of the property was yelling at me and NOT happy that I parked on his grass. He gave me few “f” bombs, and I was more than happy to find another place to park. I’m sorry that I did that and found a parking spot at a gas station a block away. I took down his address and will send him a card and a gift card of some sort as an apology. But not fun to get greeted in a new community in that way; lesson learned.

Today’s run wasn’t a planned county. Just one that I wanted to hit that is near the edge of where I’ve hit already. I’m trying to convince Lisa to go with me soon to the thumb area for a weekend and knock a few counties down. I decided to do the town of Coleman. I’ve never really been there, but my parents owned a fantastic home in Hope, and I’ve been to the city Midland a million times. The only thing I know about Coleman is my cousin Keshia is from there.

Oceana

Oceana County Run

This one was the start of the above run… I accidentally hit the end button.

Thinking about running around Pentwater Lake in the town named the same. This is a little more than a 5k, but it would be great to do a long run and then take a couple of days off. Trying to find a taxi service now. Don’t know if I will feel up to it tomorrow, but possibly.

Note: wasn’t able to run “around” the lake… Uber driver said she would have to come from Ludington and it would be $34, just to get her to Pentwater… Also called another uber driver that said he no longer does driving. Also emailed Pentwater Taxi. Turns out this taxi is a boat and isn’t in the water yet. So I had to do an out and back.

Montcalm

Montcalm County Run

This run was a little slow and difficult because I was tired. I’ve been doing a lot of driving in the past week and just exhausted. But it was super warm and probably about time to start wearing shorts again. Hoping to knock a few more counties off soon!

Thinking I might try this run on Friday. A little worried as I will be super tired and will need to run it in the dark… Which kind of won’t be good for photos. Also, I will be on a return trip from Georgia, and if possible I will try to hit a run in GA. I probably won’t have time to do a run in GA but maybe. The point is if I don’t get a run done in GA, and I’m not too tired I may try to hit this town on the way home. Super cool path and will be nice exploring this little town.

Well that didn’t go as planned. I did stop in this town to get gas, but I was tired and didn’t want to get home at 2:30 in the morning… Still think I will hit this on a trip down to GR, but I don’t know when.

4/6/21 I’m thinking this will get done late this week or possibly next. It bums me out when I plan a county and then it doesn’t happen for several weeks, or I do another county prior because of where I’m at… Need to stick to the plans.

Mason

Mason County Run

No real plan, but I found a lake that was about a 5k around. This lake was on the east side of the county, and I was in Reed City earlier in the day. I started a job today, and I am happy to be employed again. Things are looking up! I didn’t get the job in Georgia. I am disappointed because it seemed like a good company and a great group of people, but the new team I am on is impressive so far… more details to come.

Cass

Cass County Run

Above was my first of many looks at Barron Lake. So much easier to see this lake than the run earlier today.

I was running north on the middle west side of the lake. I did miss my turn at the north side of the lake because the road said “no outlet,” but I realized that it did have a path that went from one street to the next, so I turned around.

Another great look at the many incredible homes on this lake. This is the perfect 5k lake with lots of great views around the lake.

Another peak. I think this is on the North side of the lake, but I may be wrong.

I think this is on the east side of the lake looking west. Such a cool run! It was super hot at this time because it was just afternoon. I think it was high eighty’s, maybe low nineties.

Here I am a little more than halfway through this run and also halfway through my goal to run all Michigan Counties. This is 41.5 counties complete! Whoo HOOO!

Here is another great view of a spot that doesn’t have a house on it. Many homes were RIGHT next to each other on the East side of the lake. One right after another.

I liked the handling of this giant tree in somebody’s front yard.

Another Lyon photo that is nowhere near as good as Gen does. I should learn from her and get closer.

Here I am on the southwest side of the lake. I walked a bit when my 5k was complete. What a perfect day!

So this was my plan. I loved that I found this little 5k lake right on the Indiana/Michigan border. The above was my second run of the day, so both runs were extremely slow. Also, I had an extra 2.7 mile of unexpected walking because of a mistake I made in Berrien County. What a perfect little find!
