This image was the start of my run on the northwest corner of this run. There were all kinds of great farmlands around this area. I was concerned because I didn't look at elevation when I mapped this out. However, it wasn't flat, but also not too bad.
There were very big fields all around.
A look to the west down this run; this was a mile stretch.
About halfway down this road, there was this great fence and a barn in the background. You really can't see the barn very well, but it is way in the background.
Just open roads, fields, and farms.
Another great photo of a barn in the distance on such a beautiful day!
I turned the corner and am heading south.
I was watched closely by a packs of cows. I don't think it was this group, but a group of cows earlier ran about a quarter-mile along with me. However, they were about 50 yards east of me. I was surprised to see them running along with me, maybe 15 cows. I'm guessing something scared them, and that is why they were running along with me.
Another field view with a beautiful sky.
And here is another farm home in the distance.
There are two very large stacks of trees that are stripped down for lumber, maybe.
Heading west and will be turning the corner soon heading North.
Run completed. Lisa wasn't happy with me because she said there was no "town" of Curran... Also, she wasn't happy when she saw this sign.
Great Design Plan to run the county for this website

This was Sunday’s plan (figured it out on Sunday night). I wanted to find a 5k that was on our way home from yesterday’s runs. The image above is what was planned and pretty close to what I did.

My first run of today was where the red dot is. My second run was a 5k north of the blue dot. The blue dot is the location of the hotel where we stayed.
Here is the pink mailbox that Lisa and I found precisely a 5k away from the hotel. We found this, then went to dinner and came back. She dropped me off here.
Lisa dropped me off because I wanted to run a straight shot back to the hotel. We complete dinner at a fantastic little spot close to here. It was called Wiltse's Brew & Family Restaurant or something similar. What a great meal. It's been a long time since Lisa and I enjoyed eating out IN a restaurant. This meal was so lovely.
Here I was entering the main section of town.
Here is another shot of the town. I was passed by another much younger runner on the opposite side of the road, right around this location. I want to say it was because this was my second 5k of the day, but she probably would have beat me even if I was only running 40 yards.
What cool little signs on the sidewalk long ways through the town.
I turned around to look toward the north after running through this town of Oscoda.
The first view of the bridge towards the end of the run was a great sight to see.
Here is a community view just on the north side of the bridge over the Ausable River. The boats look more expensive than many of the homes to which they are attached.
Here is the end of the Ausable River, where it empties into Lake Huron.
Here is the same view but looking more south.
This photo is after the bridge but facing north (I was running south for this whole run.
A look towards the south, but mostly east.
My first view towards the north after my run made me discover Lisa out on the beach.
A friend was looking down on us.
Here is a look to the north of Lake Huron, the direction of my run. I did jump in the water here, followed by an extended stay in the hot tub.
Here is a look to the south of Lake Huron.
The hotel we found on Lake Huron in Oscoda was such a nice place.
One final look at Lake Huron.
Great Design Plan to run the county for this website

There wasn’t a plan for this run until we got into the town. I made plans in the hotel room right before we went to dinner. I did some mock-up plans the night before, but we didn’t know exactly where we would stay until the next day.

This is the cool little park we found on Lake Huron on the east side of the state.
Here is a look to the south on M23 at the beginning of my run.
The water was just to my left as I was heading south —many beautiful homes and yards with lots of trees during this part of the run mostly blocked the view.
Here is a small creek looking east that empties in the bay or Lake Huron.
I think this is where I was at the southernmost point of my run on 23. It's cool that the name of this road is 23 when The road where I live that follows the bay is 22.
The west side of the creek I passed earlier.
A look north on the road I just ran.
Here is a picture I took after I turned around. It was so hot!
I was heading north towards where I left Lisa in that park.
Here is a look to the North at this place. I think they call it singing bride park.
The photo above was our view from the bay. I was wondering if we would be able to see the thumb area. Unfortunately, we couldn't; however, we did see that island out in the middle of Saginaw Bay. I don't think you can in this photo, though.
The point in red is where this run was. The dot in blue is where Lisa and I traveled to after this run was over. I then did a run in Iosco County hours later.
Great Design Plan to run the county for this website

Lisa and I decided to go over to Lake Huron, East of us, and knock a few more counties off. We also stayed at a great little hotel on Lake Huron after my second run today. So we just headed over, and once we hit the water, we stopped, and Lisa looked at the bay while I ran. The run below was my planned run, but I realized that it crossed the County line, and I changed the run last minute to the above. I genuinely hate out and backs for this goal, but sometimes you have to do them.

fiborn karst preserve to Trout Lake
My phone is still messing up with picking up the Cellular signal. So it's been rough not to have maps or Strava on my phone. But we went and looked at the preserved, then left my car at the preserve, and my parents drove me 3.1 miles. So I didn't need my phone. I then marked where I ran on map my run images above and below.

My Climbing buddies will love the following pictures, and I have driven to Canada and Kentucky to get on rock so many times. I know they don't want people climbing here, but it looks so tempting. Fiborn Preserve is privately owned, but they allow public access, so it's just great to see this place that I never knew about until today!

First look at a crag! I need bouldering shoes!
My mom and Creig. It was Creig idea to go here and I'm so glad he suggested it.

Crags are getting larger!
Birch trees were everywhere here!
Why have I not climbed in so long?!?!
There were several spots where the land had a little bit of water. I heard there is the longest underground cave in Michigan here, but we didn't see it.
First building we saw here.
Ohhhh man. I was so tempted, 5 years ago this would have been scaled by me.

Creig and I scaled up a section of the wall area (super-easy section). Here is the view from up there.
A ton of limestone rocks.
Another crag.
Creig all the way to the back of the preserve. I took this photo looking toward the building and the entrance.
We decided that it would be best if I just left my car in the parking lot by the preserve, and Creig and mom would drive me 3.1 miles and drop me off so I could do a 5k back to the car. It was perfect!
There was a lot of water along the side of the road.
A little creek.
Here is the other side of the road looking at the creek.
Had to get a "Gen" photo.
Turn off Trout Lake Rd to get onto Fiborn Preserve Rd.
This was about a 2 mile road, at this point I already had about a mile down.
Loved the looks of this county!
Again, here is water along the sides of the road.
Such a long...
Long straight road.
Another creek, possibly the same one we crossed earlier.
Finally a curve!
Back to my car!
View of Trout Lake
View of Trout Lake just south east of the preserve.
Now I have to show you my score! I found this along the side of the road on Trout Lake Rd. at the very beginning of my run. I was so pleased to find this because I find myself looking for a level often and now I can have on in the shed AND in the basement!

Brimley MI looking at Lake Superior
I just love this spot on Lake Superior! What a great trip!

What an exciting and large county! Of course my first thought is to run one of the islands… But there is so much of this county that I haven’t explored. Also, I’m thinking of someday doing a half marathon on Mackinac Island. I have explored Hwy 2 and 75 heading North. This county goes on a long ways west, but I’ve never been to the west side of this county. So I’m wondering what your thoughts are on where to run.

5/22/21 Creig suggested running in Fiborn Karst Preserve and that is what we did the next day.

Luce County Run

There is no Strava data for this run because I didn’t have cellular reception this far north.

My parents took me up to Crisp Point Lighthouse. It was "SUCH," a long drive down a bumpy, sandy, dirt road. Probably the longest dirt road I've ever traveled down.
My mom is searching for rocks. Hunter and Creig were here too, but I didn't get any pics of them.
View of the lighthouse from the beach. Met the gentleman tending the lighthouse, his name was Scott.
Pic of me venturing out to the end of the board formation.
Shot from the end of that formation at my mom and another lady looking for agates.
Start of my run looking at Lake Superior.
I climbed up a bluff for a fantastic view!
This pano shot doesn't do the view justice. But It was unreal!!
Start down the unbelievably long dirt road.
I was amazed at how thick the forest areas were.
Last look at the big lake.
What beautiful country!
Here is another shot of the forest, much different-looking woods than Traverse City.
I know there are many roads on this site, but I love how different this area showed.
Above say's it all.
It is incredible how sandy this road was. I'm sure many have got stuck on this road. And without cell reception, you would pretty much have to wait for someone to show up to help you.
What a super long road!
These were some signs at intersections... I would hate to get lost back here!
It was rough running on this road because of how sandy the road is.
After I completed the run, we headed to this big lake named "Little Lake" I'm sure it is only a little in comparison...
There were a couple of these places that were cleared out because of a forest fire. So you could see burn rings around the bigger trees that lived. But this was a very cool thing to see.
Another shot of just incredible landscape on the drive back to the cabin.
Great Design Plan to run the county for this website

I planned to run Chippewa county today, but my parents suggested we go over to Luce today. I thought that would be perfect as I can run Chippewa later. So we took a ride to Crisp Point Lighthouse. It was an extremely long (maybe 20 miles dirt road trip). However, the very sandy area made me feel better that we were in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
