I had just finished Bay County and was heading over to Merril to do Saginaw. What wonderful farmlands everywhere between these two runs.
The photo above is terrible, but this shows the backside of Merrill. I should have taken a better pic.
I ran across this community property with a play structure and a gathering pavilion.
A very interesting looking old building in town as I was running north.
Above is my first view of one of the churches in this town.
A friendly face. I don't know why I took this picture as I don't usually pay attention to cats. But this one seemed to look at me and wonder what I was doing.
Here is another look at the quiet community. I have no idea where this is because I was often turning.
This corn was way more knee-high by June 23rd. Ten days before the 4th! I loved this shot because of how big this field was. If you look left or right, it's just more field.
Here is the shot of the required water tower.
This tractor drove by me towards the end of my run—fascinating shape, like no tractor shape I've ever seen before.

About 2 miles in, I ran past this school for, I think, the second time.
I was heading back to my car. What a long run today... this was the 6th mile of the day.

Thinking this will be my second run after doing Alma. Tuesday is a work night, so I may or may not complete this tomorrow; we’ll see how I feel. But this is the town of Merrill. I’ve been to Saginaw many times, but I don’t think I’ve ever been here. 

5/19: It didn’t happen. I was way too tired after running Alma/St. Louis area. I will have to hit this county another time.

6/23 I decided to hit this after I hit Bay county. I was having difficulty with my phone charger, it became unplugged in the car, and I had to preserve what little charge I had left. Therefore my run was nothing like the plan because I was avoiding using my phone. I had about 36% charge when I started this run. Also, this was the slowest run I’ve done so far because it was such a long day, and my previous 5k two days ago was a faster run.

I parked my car on the east side of the loop in the middle. I ran the loop then went west. I turned the corner and realized that my app wasn’t recording this run. What a bummer! So this ended up being a little over a 5k. I have an additional .25-.5 miles that didn’t get recorded.

The above picture shows a lovely little community of upper-scale homes, and it is right off a road that parallels the expressway.
I was looking south on that main road where I began. When I took this photo, my run wasn't being recorded. I found this little creek with a bunch of interesting growth around it.
Heading north on the west side of my run, I found this place that either service, makes, or sells snow-making equipment. This was an interesting thing to see.
Another photo was heading North.
Here I turned the corner heading east. There was all kind of farms and new growth.
It was probably the same creek I saw on the south end of my run, but this went through someone's yard, and they had a wonderful garden.
Running under this powerline was interesting because they were making all kinds of noise! Beautiful view, though!
Very cool farmhouse. I don't remember if this was on the north or east side of the run. But probably the north.
Here are the same powerlines looking south. Almost finished with this run. Of course, I extended this run because of the mistake I made at the start.
I am heading to Merril (Saginaw County) for my next 5k.

I decided that I should try to hit a couple of counties on this trip. I was down in Clare signing some papers for my sister Lisa and figured I hit a couple of counties. It all started with this county. After running this route, I’m reasonably sure there are a whole lot of areas in this county that would be better for scenery. But there were a few spots on this run that turned out very cool. But of course, it would have been nice to run near the bay.

This image was the start of my run on the northwest corner of this run. There were all kinds of great farmlands around this area. I was concerned because I didn't look at elevation when I mapped this out. However, it wasn't flat, but also not too bad.
There were very big fields all around.
A look to the west down this run; this was a mile stretch.
About halfway down this road, there was this great fence and a barn in the background. You really can't see the barn very well, but it is way in the background.
Just open roads, fields, and farms.

I turned the corner and am heading south.
I was watched closely by a packs of cows. I don't think it was this group, but a group of cows earlier ran about a quarter-mile along with me. However, they were about 50 yards east of me. I was surprised to see them running along with me, maybe 15 cows. I'm guessing something scared them, and that is why they were running along with me.

There are two very large stacks of trees that are stripped down for lumber, maybe.
Heading west and will be turning the corner soon heading North.
Run completed. Lisa wasn't happy with me because she said there was no "town" of Curran... Also, she wasn't happy when she saw this sign.

My first run of today was where the red dot is. My second run was a 5k north of the blue dot. The blue dot is the location of the hotel where we stayed.
Here is the pink mailbox that Lisa and I found precisely a 5k away from the hotel. We found this, then went to dinner and came back. She dropped me off here.
Lisa dropped me off because I wanted to run a straight shot back to the hotel. We complete dinner at a fantastic little spot close to here. It was called Wiltse's Brew & Family Restaurant or something similar. What a great meal. It's been a long time since Lisa and I enjoyed eating out IN a restaurant. This meal was so lovely.
Here I was entering the main section of town.
Here is another shot of the town. I was passed by another much younger runner on the opposite side of the road, right around this location. I want to say it was because this was my second 5k of the day, but she probably would have beat me even if I was only running 40 yards.
What cool little signs on the sidewalk long ways through the town.
I turned around to look toward the north after running through this town of Oscoda.
The first view of the bridge towards the end of the run was a great sight to see.
Here is a community view just on the north side of the bridge over the Ausable River. The boats look more expensive than many of the homes to which they are attached.
Here is the end of the Ausable River, where it empties into Lake Huron.

This photo is after the bridge but facing north (I was running south for this whole run.

My first view towards the north after my run made me discover Lisa out on the beach.
A friend was looking down on us.
Here is a look to the north of Lake Huron, the direction of my run. I did jump in the water here, followed by an extended stay in the hot tub.

The hotel we found on Lake Huron in Oscoda was such a nice place.

There wasn’t a plan for this run until we got into the town. I made plans in the hotel room right before we went to dinner. I did some mock-up plans the night before, but we didn’t know exactly where we would stay until the next day.

This is the cool little park we found on Lake Huron on the east side of the state.
Here is a look to the south on M23 at the beginning of my run.
The water was just to my left as I was heading south —many beautiful homes and yards with lots of trees during this part of the run mostly blocked the view.
Here is a small creek looking east that empties in the bay or Lake Huron.
I think this is where I was at the southernmost point of my run on 23. It's cool that the name of this road is 23 when The road where I live that follows the bay is 22.

Here is a picture I took after I turned around. It was so hot!
I was heading north towards where I left Lisa in that park.
Here is a look to the North at this place. I think they call it singing bride park.
The photo above was our view from the bay. I was wondering if we would be able to see the thumb area. Unfortunately, we couldn't; however, we did see that island out in the middle of Saginaw Bay. I don't think you can in this photo, though.
The point in red is where this run was. The dot in blue is where Lisa and I traveled to after this run was over. I then did a run in Iosco County hours later.

Lisa and I decided to go over to Lake Huron, East of us, and knock a few more counties off. We also stayed at a great little hotel on Lake Huron after my second run today. So we just headed over, and once we hit the water, we stopped, and Lisa looked at the bay while I ran. The run below was my planned run, but I realized that it crossed the County line, and I changed the run last minute to the above. I genuinely hate out and backs for this goal, but sometimes you have to do them.
